Life Does Not Care About Your Dreams

You don’t reach your destination by thinking of it or talking about it. You need to strap in and start driving.

I once knew someone who wanted to become a model. For the sake of this story, we will call him “Jimmy”.

To be fair, Jimmy has the features and structure to become a model. He always talked about how he would be a perfect fit for the modelling industry. I had friends in the industry who also told me the same thing. But here’s the problem with Jimmy — he only talked about it.

Around two years ago a mutual friend of ours announced that he had joined a casting agency. We will call him “Alex”.

When Jimmy found out that Alex joined a casting agency, with a very smug look, he said, “Alex? A model? What jobs is he expecting to get with that kind of face? I look better than him!”

Fast-forward to last Sunday when I was scrolling through my Instagram feed, imagine my delight when I saw photos of Alex walking the runway. He knew what he wanted, and he worked for it.

If you keep talking about your dreams…
